It is my goal to be employed in the field of mechanical
engineering. The skills required of said engineer include a wide variety of
problem solving and analytical skills. Although these skills are of great
importance in the path to become a mechanical engineer, the ability to
effectively communicate with others may possibly be of a greater importance.
This is because an engineer who is excels in problem solving but cannot
communicate with others is all good when he works alone but that is hardly the
case anymore. The reason this is the case, is nowadays there are several if not
tens of engineers on even the smallest of projects. Therefore the ability to
effectively communicate my thought processes with my fellow engineer has become
essential in the engineering workplace of the modern era. Theoretically one of
the most important communication skills the modern engineer is required to
possess is the ability to turn their thoughts into a detailed description.
While it is true that all of the engineer's final thoughts would be turned into
an engineering drawing, the stages of thought and improvement on that idea
would require the engineers fellow engineers to try and improve upon the
original concept. This requires an engineer to be effective in communicating
his ideas. In conclusion a good engineer needs to be able to communicate with
his fellow man.
